I had one of 'those'

As per usual the time just flies. It's now fast approaching Easter and I have a very busy time ahead. Lots of organising, preparing, cooking........Laura is 21 in a few weeks and a party is planned........stay tuned!!
In the mean time, Rose and I had another one of these...........
mum and dad made us a wonderful dinner, and Laura made the cake.....Carrot and Almond cake, Yum!!
Theo and went away with some friends for the weekend a couple of weeks ago to Torquay. Beautiful place lots of cafes and shops and of course the beach. The DH's played golf both days, while my girlfriend and I chatted, had coffee and went to a quilt show (I'm working on getting her into patchwork......). Very nice indeed especially the morning walks along the beach.
There was a spectacular Sundial on the hill, I was too 'short' to take a photo of the whole thing, so here are some parts of it, the detail is amazing, all mosaic, the view was great too.

Saturday I went and joined a group of ladies at Foothills to make the 'Jelly Roll1600 quilt' (get the instructions here).
What a fabulous night. The quilt top took about 3 hours( lots of chatting going on) while we enjoyed Champagne and Pizza for dinner and a yummy fruit flan for dessert! The fabric I used is Rouenneries Deux by French General for Moda.

I love going to mum and dad's especially when I come home with a basket full of  veggies. This is the last of the harvest for this year.

The veggie garden will be weeded, and newspaper laid to keep the weeds at bay till spring.

AND finally When I pulled the blind in the kitchen this morning  I noticed the tree over the road.......
I was up a bit later today. Autumn is really here, though my big oak out the front hasn't done much changing ........YET!

Till next time

Bits and Pieces

This is my latest softee, Magoo made for my great nephew Dante who lives in QLD.
I thinks he loves it!!Sorry about the pic quality but I only had my phone when I took this one.

And this little critter, a Gecko(I think) on the ceiling, not cute as Dante, but still cute!

Also on the creative  note, Laura and I had a fun day making her 21st Birthday invitations.
More on that later....

We had the most unbelievable sunset a few weeks back, just a glow on the hill.

Then on Saturday night on the way home I spied the moon popping up over the hill. No camera in the car, so I quickly dropped hubby home, grabbed my camera and went back to get my "Moon rising" photo.

A morning walk down at Beaumaris(Port Phillip Bay). There were heaps of Black Swans

So I have been out and about, doing a little creative stuff, amongst other day to day stuff and the days just vanish.
Tonight it's off to mum and dad's for a family dinner.

Friday Fences

Here goes, I hope this works, my computer just blew up!! So Justin has let me use his.....none of my favorites, photos or other bits are here so I hope i can do my post.

I met some patchwork friends at the beach(close to where they live) a few weeks ago for a morning walk, it was lovely. This small but fascinating cliff  was behind a very ordinary fence.  Perfect for me to take a photo

Which to choose??

I had the terrible dilemma this morning of which fence to post. I took so many and varied while we were away that I  have a great collection for quite a few weeks. It's now a terrible obsession, everywhere I go I look for fences that have...........something! But which one to put up.........
I loved this one. the flowering gum on the nature strip sets it off beautifully.
It's chunky but not chunky, what do you think??

And this bunch of flowers.............agapantha(weed), bit of snap dragon, bit of flowering gum, bit of freesia and there was something else but I can't see it to remember, was sold to me. We had driven past this group of children more than once,  they had set out a huge table full of flower bunches like this one.
Every time someone drove past they would scream out, "please, please, buy some flowers".
When I went back to take my photo of this fence they came running shouting please please please..........well what does one do when children are practically begging you to buy them??? Buy them of course. $3!!!! sheesh........good little entrepreneurs  coming up I think.

Sewing Day

Yesterday I took a drive down to the Peninsular to spend the day with my SIL Willy and niece Bec (she has 4 littlies 7yo down to 8 months........Thanks Jarrod for doing "daddy" all by yourself for the WHOLE day) .
Willy's other daughter Mandy is expecting her first baby in the next week or two and they wanted to make her a quilt. Not being into patchwork (yet) they called on Aunty Mo's (me) help. So while cutting, pinning,

pressing and lots of chatting

we came up with this little number........

Added a couple of borders and ta daa!
we have an I Spy quilt for he baby.

While we were putting together a quilt, my BIL Alan was working on the grandies cubby house,
his head came off second best on no less than 4 separate occasions (he kept forgetting the doorway is child height!) Sorry I forgot to take a photo of the cubby, but it is really impressive.

Till next time, have a fabulous rest of the weekend
I'm off to the sewing room.........again :-D

Friday already??!!

Welll!!!.......... that week just flew by.........., things get back to 'usual' and the week flies.
It's been a good week though, a few things accomplished home wise,  nothing much has happened in the sewing room, BUT stay tuned, THAT is about to change.
I think for the next post or two I'll stick with the Holiday and Fences theme, I hope I don't bore you.

Along this part of the path on the way up to the Bluff were lots of  Tea Trees.

We came across this little fellow early one morning. It's a little marsupial of some sort, quite cute.

While we were away the Flowering Gums (Eucalyptus ficifolia) were ablaze. Here's a close up of the flowers.
Apparently (according to a local lady) this tree has been vandalised so many times that it's growth was stunted, its about 3 meters tall, but the flowers are just amazing. These trees can grow up to 10meters(30feet) tall. This year they're just gorgeous.

Just a little bit of History

Playing in the sand,........the boys aren't too big to build Sand Castles.
