Friday's Fences

This photo was taken when we went to Torquay a few weeks back. It was grumpy sort of a day, fabulous for walking along the beach.

Friday's Fences

Mr Kookaburra is probably wondering which fence will give him the best view to spy his snacks!

Surprise!!

Going for my usual morning walk with a girlfriend we rounded the corner to find this fellow.
I think we surprised him. We looked at him, he looked at us, he decided to hop off into the bushes.
We have more and more kangaroos around the lake these days, and they get quite close, but I'm still very wary of them. They might look cute, but those hind legs are strong.

Friday's Fences

The bright yellow was amazing against the cream from the fence and the yet to change green of the oak.
It's just down the road, so I'll be keeping a watch on the oak to see when it starts to turn.

A Birthday Party

Oh what a busy couple of weeks I've had, lots of cooking and preparations for an up coming party.
Laura turned 21 last week. And what a lead up to it.
We had a great time. Her birthday day was celebrated with family we went to the movies and had lunch, . dinner was at her grandparents, which Ita (Grandma) made. Then the following Saturday(last weekend) the Party. Her theme......SHOES. Wear whatever you like, favorites, most comfy, ugliest, fun, sporty, creative, whatever takes your fancy.

This was my effort, my favorite colour. I bought the blue shoes and added the blingy bits and ribbon. I was out for comfort!!

And I also decided to make her a quilt. Two days before Easter I got the idea!! As if I didn't have enough on my plate, but I really wanted to make her one. So, I gathered all the fabrics, packed my machine and everything I needed, and we headed to the beach with some friends (they have a holiday house) where I spent the Easter break making Laura her quilt. Am I'm so pleased I did. I didn't quite get it finished but this is what I managed to do.

I finished the rest of the top the Thursday night before the party. My plan was for all the guests to sign the front, her plan was different, she didn't want writing all over it, So, change of plan.........sign some fabric and put it in the backing.

I think I've finally recovered, it was a fabulous time.
As usual when there is a special occasion, Ivan, my brother and Ayumi my SIL come all the way from Sri :Lanka. It's so fantastic when they are here.

And I have to mention Fugi  (Marcus) he came all the way from Austria for the party.
I think he spent a whole 30 hours on Australian soil!!! Thanks Fugi, it was wonderful to catch up with you again

Friday's Fences

I think these are 'Bunny Tails' (not their proper weed name though, I have no idea what that is), please correct me if I'm wrong.
They always fascinate me, I don't know why, they just do.

Friday Fences

I've been looking for these photo for ages and finally last while siftling through I found them.
These are actual photos that I have scanned so apologies for the not so great quality.
Taken in 2004 at our usual holiday spot, Inverloch, this fence was brilliant. So much work had gone into it. Sadly it no longer exists. I've walked the streets looking for it the last 2 summers, but to no avail.
I think it very creative.

I had one of 'those'

As per usual the time just flies. It's now fast approaching Easter and I have a very busy time ahead. Lots of organising, preparing, cooking........Laura is 21 in a few weeks and a party is planned........stay tuned!!
In the mean time, Rose and I had another one of these...........
mum and dad made us a wonderful dinner, and Laura made the cake.....Carrot and Almond cake, Yum!!
Theo and went away with some friends for the weekend a couple of weeks ago to Torquay. Beautiful place lots of cafes and shops and of course the beach. The DH's played golf both days, while my girlfriend and I chatted, had coffee and went to a quilt show (I'm working on getting her into patchwork......). Very nice indeed especially the morning walks along the beach.
There was a spectacular Sundial on the hill, I was too 'short' to take a photo of the whole thing, so here are some parts of it, the detail is amazing, all mosaic, the view was great too.

Saturday I went and joined a group of ladies at Foothills to make the 'Jelly Roll1600 quilt' (get the instructions here).
What a fabulous night. The quilt top took about 3 hours( lots of chatting going on) while we enjoyed Champagne and Pizza for dinner and a yummy fruit flan for dessert! The fabric I used is Rouenneries Deux by French General for Moda.

I love going to mum and dad's especially when I come home with a basket full of  veggies. This is the last of the harvest for this year.

The veggie garden will be weeded, and newspaper laid to keep the weeds at bay till spring.

AND finally When I pulled the blind in the kitchen this morning  I noticed the tree over the road.......
I was up a bit later today. Autumn is really here, though my big oak out the front hasn't done much changing ........YET!
